Darwin Nunez attempted to build on his recent goal-scoring success by hitting the crossbar with a strong early effort against Luton. If he had opted for positioning above power, it probably would have been a goal.
As time passed in the city, Luton’s confidence grew and the visitors failed to take advantage of their opportunities.

Thomas Kaminski, the goalie for Luton, deserves praise for his outstanding stops against Darwin Nunez of Liverpool and Diogo Jota.
Luton remained deep and bided his time until Ross Barkley had the opening to break free. Barkley sprinted out of his own half and set up a sequence of play that culminated with Chong jabbing the ball past Alisson.

Liverpool made an effort to try to get back into the game, but they were thwarted by the hard-charging Hatters defense that made it difficult to penetrate.
Ultimately, Diaz’s spectacular header in stoppage time proved to be the difference between Liverpool and the win as he sprang highest in the box.
