On Sunday night, the Stanford Cardinal women’s basketball team ended a 29-year championship drought in dramatic fashion, barely hanging on to beat the Arizona Wildcats, 54-53.

One of the stars of the game was freshman Cameron Brink, who was limited to 19 minutes due to foul trouble but still had 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks. This NCAA championship is just the latest accolade for Brink. She joined Stanford in 2020 as one of the highest-ranked recruits in the country, an elite post player and two-time gold medalist with Team USA’s U19 and U17 squads. After the NCAA title was assured, her godbrother — who happens to be Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry — posted a heartfelt congratulations message on his Instagram.

In both 2018 and 2019, Brink earned a spot at Steph Curry’s prestigious S30 Select Camp, but Curry’s bond with Brink dates back much longer than that, as proven by the below compilation of photos from Overtime:

Steph’s mom Sonya was roommates with Cameron’s mom Michelle Bain-Brink at Virginia Tech. Sonya was in attendance during the Stanford-Arizona game, and ESPN briefly captured her cheering on the Cardinal. Steph Curry also made sure to ring up Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer late on Sunday night to congratulate her too.

VanDerveer, now a three-time NCAA champion, surpassed Pat Summit in December and is the record-holder for most wins in women’s college basketball history.
